Social prescribing

Welcome to our CPD module series for community pharmacy technicians. Written in conjunction with the Pharmacy Magazine CPD series, it will mirror the magazine’s programme throughout the year. The series has been designed for you to use as part of your continuing professional development. Reflective exercises have been included to help you put your learning into practice.

Aim:

To help community pharmacy technicians understand why social prescribing is integral to patient care and how it can help to meet their psychosocial needs.

Objectives:

After completing this module and its online counterpart, pharmacy technicians will:

  • Understand the difference between biomedical and biopsychosocial
    models of healthcare
  • Be familiar with how social prescribing works within the NHS
  • Be aware of how pharmacists and the wider community pharmacy team can better support the lifestyle and psychosocial needs of patients.
